Technology Centre Surveys Heathrow Terminal 4 Multi Storey Car Park

The Technology Centre Building Pathology team recently completed a comprehensive structural appraisal of multi storey car park 4 at Heathrow Airport for the VINCI Construction UK Air Division.

The investigation included:

• Full visual survey to identify and log every defect
• Edge protection testing to assess safety in case of vehicular impact
• Corrosion surveys to assess condition of the steel within the concrete
• Limited breakouts of the concrete structure
• Sounding survey of deck areas
  

The car park remained open throughout the exercise: calling for maximum flexibility from the team and out of hours working.

Repair requirements were identified as part of the investigation and recommendations for these repairs were made.

The programme called for the final report to be delivered in four weeks from commencement, approximately half the time usually allowed for a project of this scale: we are pleased to confirm that this very tight deadline was met.
