Parkwood Academy Students Take a Tour Around the Site of Their Future School

A group of school children aged 13-14 and their teachers were recently taken on a tour around the site of their new school extension at Parkwood Academy in Sheffield. The Northern region of VINCI Construction UK’s Building division is undertaking the £18m contract. Andy Geraghty, Project Manager, organised the visit, to enable the students to record videos and take pictures of the work in progress.

The year 8 students, who are studying German, now plan to send a video of the new school to a school in Munster, Germany. The video will be dubbed over by the students explaining, in German, the tour around site.

The Munster school has been communicating with Parkwood’s language department and exchanging information on various class projects.

The Parkwood Academy class decided to create celebrity masks to wear whilst pretending to work on their new school. This was done in a safe environment, under the watchful eye of Andy Geraghty and other VINCI Construction UK members of staff.

Jack Robbins, 14 year old student said: “It was great to see the school being built. I can’t believe I’m one of the first in my school to see it up close. Looking at where the new school hall and entrance are supposed to be is hard to imagine, but looks great so far”.

Penny Turner, German teacher, commented: “The children have been stupendously well behaved and enjoyed every bit of their visit. Andy (Geraghty) has been fantastic with the children and has made the trip safe and secure”.

“He also paid extra attention to one of our disabled students and made sure she could access all the areas the other students visited, safely. All of the VINCI Construction UK staff were very accommodating and are already lining up another visit in the future to see the school in a later phase”.

Andy Geraghty, VINCI Construction UK Project Manager said: “It was a pleasure to show the Parkwood students around site. They behaved in a fantastic manner and we welcome them back anytime”.
