New Sheffield School Win for VINCI Construction UK

VINCI Construction UK has received the go ahead to create a new school on the site of the existing Bradfield School at Worrall in Sheffield. The £22 million project begins immediately with completion due in Summer 2013, ahead of the new school year.

The new split level school of two and three-storey design, will cover over 8,600m² and will be constructed while the existing facility continues to operate.

Keith Shivers, VINCI Construction UK’s Regional Director said: ‘Our prime concern on this significant new project will be to ensure that all of our demolition and construction works are co-ordinated with the school to minimise any disruption to pupils and staff.

‘We will be bringing all the experience and know-how we have gained, working extensively in the education sector across the UK and in Sheffield, to the Bradfield School project and we aim to deliver a new school facility that enhances learning for all its pupils.’

Keith G. Holmes, Assistant Head Teacher, Bradfield School explained:

“The existing school was built in 1959 and was designed for less than half the students that are at present on role. As a result, temporary accommodation has been utilised over the years and, whilst the school has been keen to adopt new technologies which aid teaching and learning, these have been added to the existing building rather than built in to it as an inherent part of its design. The new school will give students and staff the opportunity to shape their learning environment for the future. We are all excited at the opportunities of teaching and learning in the new school which will offer such modern teaching facilities. The new school will provide opportunities to examine energy usage and wastage thus allowing the school to ensure that we have a minimal carbon footprint. Through the planning of the school eco-group with VINCI Construction UK, it is hoped that the new school will not only blend into the beautiful rural environment in which it sits, but will also provide a wildlife haven for the native species, creating a focal point for naturalists to study and explore. The new school will have a four court sports hall, fitness studio and a large main hall. These are resources that have been badly needed for several years both by the school and by the local community. The school has already forged a close relationship with VINCI Construction UK during the design and planning stages and we are all looking forward to the next part of this exciting era.”
