VINCI Construction UK has won a c. £19m contract to build a new temperature controlled distribution centre and offices for Standard Life Investment in Reading with a pre let to Brakes Group, a leading supplier to the foodservice industry.
The turnkey facility will be delivered by the Retail division of VINCI Construction UK. Construction will commence in early September over a 28 week period to be completed and operational for March 2012.
Chris Pape, Managing Director VINCI Construction UK – Retail commented:
“This is an exciting contract to demonstrate our Retail division’s abilities to a highly renowned organisation in the foodservice sector in a strategic position on the M4 corridor. The key requirements of the project – working within a confined site and delivery to a tight schedule - are capabilities that VINCI Construction UK is an expert delivery partner in.”
The distribution centre will contain three separate zones comprising chilled, cold and ambient temperature controlled areas with a total floor area of 185,000 sq ft. A 25,000 sq ft, three-storey office block will also be constructed alongside the main warehouse with small ancillary buildings.
The fit out work will cover all internal racking as well as mechanical and electrical services, sprinkler systems and frozen and chilled refrigeration. The supporting office areas will also be fitted by VINCI Construction UK.
Owing to the confined nature of the site, unusual features of the construction include the lorry parking area situated at ground floor level to 6m in height, which will facilitate 141 HGV vehicles to park. On top of this will be a decked car park with space for 200 vehicles.
This scheme contains the close relationship with design team and client following on from the successful completion of a similar facility in New Hythe for Brakes Group.
